GPF is a non-profit, secular, voluntary, non-political Non Governmental Organization (NGO) registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (# 296/1997 A.P). It is a tax exempted under 12AA and 80G certified (# CIT (E) Hyd/19(09)/12A & 80G/15-16). Under this registration, any individual, company or organization that makes donations to GPF are offered exemptions from taxes. GPF is eligible to receive foreign contributions according to the rules and guidance of the Home Ministry of India.

GPF was founded by a legal professional who had the urge to uplift the poor from the clutches of poverty in 1997 along with a few likeminded people. Though GPF was low on its services to the poor, it geared up its works when two persons who had been working with Fr.Windey, who is the founder of Village Reconstruction Organization (VRO) joined GPF. Their commitment and rich development experience helped the organization to grow faster to reach out to hundreds of families in Prakasam and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh, India with a wide range of empowering programs.
